Patrick James Cummins, popularly known as Pat Cummins is mainly a right-arm fast bowler who truly holds the Aussie spirit of never surrendering in any situation. He was born on May 8th, 1993 in Sydney. Pat Cummins is the son of Peter Cummins, his father and his mother Maria Cummins.
As a fast bowler, he is quite tall, 6 feet 4 inches and he utilizes his height very well during giving some sharp bouncers to opponent batsmen. He has a very successful career, but injuries had almost ruled him from the squad for very long. Due to his strong will and determination, he came back quite strong and now he sits at number one in the list of top ICC test bowlers in the world. Now many teams where he plays franchise games also consider him an all-rounder because he developed his batting skills also.
In 2010 he made his First Class debut at just the age of 17. Cummins made his test debut against South Africa at the age of 18 in 2011. In that series against South Africa, he made his ODI debut also. In 2011 he started his international T20 career also and his IPL debut in 2014 for Kolkata Knight Riders.
In the year 2020, he got featured in the Wisden Cricketer Of The Year for his extraordinary performance for Australia Team. This is his most notable award to date.
Pat Cummins Career
Pat Cummins stated his junior level cricket for Glenbrook Cricket Club. In 2010 he got entered First-Class cricket for Penrith. His 2010-11 domestic season was the best domestic season in his career and that year he ended as the highest wicket taker in their local Big Bash League for Sydney Sixers. In the year 2011, he made his First-Class debut and there he was able to take the first four-wicket haul of his career.
Pat Cummins started his test career at a very young age of just 18 which only a few players can achieve to date. In 2011 when he played his first test match against South Africa, people expected a lot from him because he joined the team as a very talented youngster. Cummins did not disappoint the people because he won the man of the match award in his very first match in his career. In that match, he took 1/38 in the first innings and 6/79 in the second innings.
But injury had struck him so hard that he had to wait for six years to again reappear in international cricket after the very first match of his career that he played. In 2017 he again played for Australia against India, where he looked fitter, leaner and more agile. His fellow Australian bowlers like Josh Hazelwood, and James Pattinson had faced many injuries but Cummins stays fit and plays every match for the Australian cricket team. Cummins took his first 10-wicket haul in a single test match against Sri Lanka in the 2018-19 tour of Sri Lanka. Now he is the number 1 test bowler in the world according to ICC test rankings.
On the 19th of October 2011, he played his first ODI match against the same opponent against which he made his test debut, South Africa. After that, he was out of cricket due to injury. But in 2015 he could play in only two ODI matches where he performed very well but again got out of action due to his injury concern.
In 2019 he again got selected for ODI against India. In the very second match, he took 4/29. And in the 4th ODI match, he took 5/70, his first 5-wicket haul in ODI’s.
Cummins was able to take the 100th ODI wicket of his career on 29th February 2020.
International T20 Career
Pat Cummins also played his first T20 match against the South Africa team in the same series where he got debuted in international cricket. The T20 series was only two matches where he took 5 wickets. He took 2 wickets in his first match and 3 in the second one. But to date, he could make his mark in the shortest format of cricket. To date, he played 30 T20I matches where he was able to take only 37 wickets in total.
Due to his ability of bowling with some raw pace with accuracy and also can bat a bit lower down the order, Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL back in 2014 when he was quite young. But due to injuries and not delivering as was expected from him he could only play 4 games in two seasons of IPL.
In 2017, he was released by Kolkata Knight Riders and bought by Delhi Capitals. Where he was able to play 12 games in which he took 17 wickets. But his biggest year in IPL was 2020 where he was again brought back by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping 15.50 crore and this made him the most expensive overseas player in IPL to date. He still plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and has now become quite an important asset to the team.
Pat Cummins stays with his parents and with his wife. He completed his studies at the University Of Technology in Sydney. In the year 2020, he got married to his girlfriend Becky Boston on the 5th of February.
